Copper Electroplating Kit - 1.5 Gallon

The 1.5-Gallon Copper Plating Kit includes the following components: 2 Gallon Plating Tanks with Lids, 2 Copper Anodes (4" x 8"), and a Pack of Copper Crystals (sufficient for 1.5 Gallons of solution). Our upgraded copper plating system now provides consistent, bright copper plating, requiring minimal post-plating polishing.

Copper can be used for 'electroforming', a process that allows creating complete objects from pure copper. This involves making a mold from wax and conductive powder, copper plating the mold, and then melting the wax away. Alternatively, copper can be formed over lead molds, with the lead melted off afterward. This technique has applications for reproducing decals.

The copper plating process requires 0.07 to 0.2 amps per square inch of the part's surface area. Higher current levels result in faster plating times. The system operates at temperatures between 70°F and 90°F.

To prepare 1.5 gallons of copper plating solution, 1 pint of automotive battery acid (not included) is required.

The copper plating can be applied directly over brass, copper, or nickel, but cannot be plated directly onto steel, pot metal, zinc, or aluminum. This kit is free of cyanides, and its operation does not produce any waste chemicals or hazardous fumes.

In addition to the core components, the kit includes a 4-ounce bottle of Copper Brightener B, which enhances the luster and appearance of the plated copper.
