The Bright Acid Copper Plating Kit is our new and improved copper plating system that offers consistent bright copper plating, requiring minimal polishing after the plating process. For those involved in restoration, copper plating is one of the most valuable repair tools available. By applying layers of copper and sanding between applications, an exceptionally smooth surface can be quickly built up, effectively covering scratches and minor pits caused by corrosion. The system plates at a rate of 0.0005" - 0.001 (1 mil) per hour at 10-30 Amps/Sq Ft. More extensive repairs can be made using a soldering iron and solder, which can be easily melted into the pits and sanded flat. A final layer of copper plate can then be applied to seal the solder filler, followed by buffing and polishing to a high-quality luster. The successive layers of nickel and chrome plate applied to this type of quality substrate will ensure a 'show quality' finish.

Copper can be used for 'electroforming,' allowing for the creation of complete objects from pure copper. This is achieved by making a mold from wax and conductive powder, copper plating the mold, and then melting the wax. Copper can also be formed over lead molds, with the lead subsequently melted away. This process has applications for those wishing to reproduce decals.

The copper plating process requires 0.07 - 0.2 amps per square inch of part surface area, with higher current resulting in faster plating times. The system operates at 70°F-90°F, and 1 pint of automotive battery acid is required per 1.5 gallons of copper plating solution. The copper plate can be applied directly over brass, copper or nickel, but cannot be plated directly onto steel, pot metal, zinc or aluminum. This kit contains no cyanides and its operation creates no waste chemicals or dangerous fumes.

For direct plating onto Steel, Pot Metal, Zinc Die Cast or Lead, our Flash Copper™ Kit should be used. The copper plating solution can be considered a permanent fixture, with the anodes being sacrificial and each supplying sufficient metal to plate approximately 20 sq. ft @ .2 x 3.5 Gal Plating Tanks & Lids.
